Dr. Murphy is founding chairman and chief executive officer of AlphaMed Consulting, Inc., which provides strategic support for cancer drug development programs of academic centers, global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. He was founder and former chief executive officer of the Hipple Cancer Research Center, a principal investigator for the National Institutes of Health, and has
authored more than 150 peer-reviewed papers. He is founding executive editor of the Oncologist, Stem Cells, and Stem Cells Translational Medicine. He a Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and is founding chief executive officer of the CEO Roundtable on Cancer at the request of President George H.W. Bush.
Dr. Murphy co-founded the Society for Translational Oncology, is a member of the scientific advisory board of Hatteras Venture Partners, is a charter member of the International Advisory Board of the VU University Medical Imaging Center, and is a charter member of Queen’s University-Belfast School of Medicine International Review Board. He is chairman emeritus of the Conquer Cancer Foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, convener of Advanced Clinical Trials-China, and is a steering committee member and senior consultant of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology.
He is also a member of the National Cancer Policy Forum, the National Academy of Medicine of the United States National Academy of Sciences, is a director of the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health, a member of the board of visitors for the University of North Carolina Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, and is a charter member of C-Change, founded by former President George H. W. Bush and former First Lady Barbara Bush.
