Ms. Blakey joined the immediate office of the FDA Oncology Center of Excellence in July 2018 where she focuses on patient advocate and external stakeholder engagement. She serves as a liaison leader for patients, advocacy groups, health care providers and medical associations interested in influencing oncology-related medical product regulatory decision-making, at OCE. Ms. Blakey leads OCE’s Project Community and is responsible for managing unique, far-reaching, and sometimes previously unresolved issues relating to outreach and engagement by granting stakeholders, a myriad of opportunities to provide input toward OCE cancer product decision-making.
Prior to joining the Oncology Center of Excellence, Ms. Blakey was Engagement Team Lead under the Center Director’s Office for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER). Before serving at FDA, her career was focused at the intersection of health/medical communications & media. Ms. Blakey was Director of Communication at GW Medical Faculty Associates; she worked as the Washington, DC-based CNN Medical Correspondent covering international and domestic health & medical news, hosted nearly 60 “Discovery Channel CME” programs and other Discovery Communications programing. In addition, Ms. Blakey spent more than 13 years as news anchor and health reporter at Washington, DC’s ABC News affiliate TV station, WJLA-Channel 7 winning two Emmy Awards.
