Dr. Howie is a medical oncologist and medical officer in the Division of Oncology Products 1 in the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. She is also a physician in the Division of Hospital Medicine at Georgetown University Hospital.

Dr. Howie reviews investigational drug and new drug applications in the areas of breast, gynecological and genitourinary cancers as well as supportive care products. She has a particular interest in the role of patient reported outcomes in helping to better understand the patient experience with therapy and understanding patient tolerability of therapy.

She was previously a general medical oncologist/hematologist at Cancer Care of Western North Carolina in Asheville. She earned a master’s degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin atMadison, an M.D. with distinction from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine at Chapel Hill, completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and completed a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Duke University Hospital.
